KIVA is an organization that provides loans to people in third world countries to start or expand a business. I think it is a wonderful way to feel like you are making a difference in someone's life. On their website you can browse and choose the individual who you'd like to help. Your loan is paid back over time and then you'll have a credit to help someone else.
I have given KIVA gift certificates for Christmas and birthday presents and they make a unique gift for the person "who has everything".
10% of my art sold this year will be put towards KIVA loans and will be my small way of giving something back to those less fortunate.
