Horse Painting

Two of a Kind      6 x 6       Oil  Sold

This is a good example of the light rule; if you have warm shadows you will have cool light.  When painting the lights I used just a touch of blue in the mixture which helps to make the lights look extra bright.   If the light was painted with a warm white the effect would not have been as dramatic.

Hi Donna, I'm a fellow Calgarian artist and I love your work! Thanks for your notes on this painting. I often struggle with temperature in my paintings. Your description of adding the bit of cool to the light (when you have warm shadows) to make the light more 'bright' seemed to click with me. Thinking of it in terms of adding brightness resonates with me. Now I have a better idea of where I'm working towards, when I'm building those lights and shadows. Thanks so much! Cheryl Peddie
