A Few of my Latest Paintings

Little League 15x30 Oil on Canvas

Page Turner 9 x 12 Oil on Panel

I can't believe it has been months since I updated my blog.  Well I have been hard at work painting and attending workshops.  I'll post information about Jennifer McChristian's plein air workshop in a later post.

Here are two recent ones, I'll be uploading more in the next few days.

Mother's Love - Small Wonder

16x20 Oil on Canvas

This summer I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph a young mom (a fellow artist) and her baby.  We took several shots out in her garden where her little boy was fascinated with the abundance of flowers.  A tender moment.  I tried to be a bit bolder with the paint application using a knife and colour shaper.

Good News is my latest 6x6 painting.  My favorite colour combination, purple, green and orange....love that combo!

Ranch Hand Portrait

This is another practice portrait for the Jeffrey Watts workshop I will be attending.  As the date gets closer I get more and more worried about it.  This is how it usually goes.......At first, I'm ecstatic that I will be in the company and learning from a great artist whom I admire immensely.  Then the self doubt.....Should I  have signed up for the workshop, maybe I'm not good enough, will I make a foul of myself,  maybe I'll get lost, or the rental car will break down..  Then the day comes and I'm over the moon with excitement again.

I've learned to ride the roller coaster of emotions.  I'm in the self doubt mode at the moment but know from experience that this will pass and give way to an amazing learning experience.

6 x 6 Oil Painting
$175 (Sold)

Another favorite subject of mine is painting people reading.  This fellow was reading in a coffee shop at a table next to the front window.  I took the opportunity to loose the far edge of the book into the brightness of the window and lost his right arm into the darkness of the chair.

Urban Painting

"Cross Dressing"
11 x 14          oil on linen

I'm not sure if I will keep the name of this painting. I think there must be a better title out there, maybe referring to the suit versus the flip flops......any suggestions?
