Urban Scene WIP

This past weekend my daughter and I went to an Diamond Willow Artisan Retreat near Turner Valley, Alberta.  Pat and Doug are fabulous hosts and their property is beautiful.

While there I started an urban painting.  Here are the first two steps.  Transparent Oxide Red and Cad Yellow Light was used to lay out the composition during step one.  In the second step I started to lay in colour working from back to front.  I kept in mind that the colour for the  distant trees needed to be cooler and less saturated in order to create depth.

I'll post the next steps tomorrow.  Have a great day!

International Womens Day Exhibition

The Exhibition is now open to the public in Ayr, Ontario and will run for 5 weeks ending April 10th. This is an article from the Kitchener paper that my father sent to me. It has been a wonderful experience and honour for my daughter and I to participate in this worthwhile venture. Over 100 artists from around the world answered the call to paint a 24 x 24 inch canvas in response to the theme "International Women Celebrate". A portion of the sales will be donated to a grass roots Haitian relief organization.

Giving Back with KIVA

KIVA is an organization that provides loans to people in third world countries to start or expand a business. I think it is a wonderful way to feel like you are making a difference in someone's life. On their website you can browse and choose the individual who you'd like to help. Your loan is paid back over time and then you'll have a credit to help someone else.

I have given KIVA gift certificates for Christmas and birthday presents and they make a unique gift for the person "who has everything".

10% of my art sold this year will be put towards KIVA loans and will be my small way of giving something back to those less fortunate.

Check out their website if you have a chance. KIVA

TPH Charitable Greeting Card Campaign

Wow, it has been quite a while since I posted. We've done quite a bit of travelling in the last couple of weeks and I'm finally able to concentrate on my painting again. Yippee!!!

I was excited to receive my package in the mail from the TPH Charitable Greeting Card Campaign in which my Christmas Bundles has been chosen as one of the cards featured. From their site you can see all of the artwork donated by several Canadian artists as well as information about the six charities that will benefit. The Community Kitchen Program of Calgary is one of the charities selected.
